Italian graded readers to improve your language skills

Last Modified: May 9, 2021

Reading Italian graded readers

A volte le persone che hanno appena iniziato a imparare l’italiano mi chiedono di suggerirgli qualcosa da leggere per migliorare le proprie abilità linguistiche. Quindi, oggi ho deciso di scrivere un breve articolo sulle letture graduate che potete leggere in italiano.

Sometimes people who have just started to learn Italian ask me for reading suggestions in order to improve their language skills. So, today I’ve decided to write a short article about some graded readers you can read in Italian.

I benefici di leggere in italiano – Benefits of reading in Italian

I benefici di leggere in una seconda lingua sono molteplici, anche per quelli tra di voi che hanno appena iniziato ad imparare una lingua straniera da zero. Però, i benefici principali, probabilmente, sono:

The benefits of reading in a second language are several, also for those of you who have just started to learn a foreign language from scratch. However, the main benefits are probably:

a. Aumento del vocabolario: leggere libri o testi vi aiuta a scoprire parole nuove e a costruire un vocabolario base nel caso siate principianti.

a. Increasing your vocabulary: reading books or texts helps you discover new words and build a basic vocabulary if you’re a beginner.

b. Apprendimento del vocabolario in contesto: leggere vi aiuta a imparare nuove parole in contesto e questo aumenta le possibilità che voi le memorizziate.

b. Learning vocabulary in context: reading helps you learn new words in context and this increases the possibilities you’ll memorize them.

c. Miglioramento di alter abilità linguistiche: quando leggete imparate nuovo vocabolario, nuove espressioni e anche strutture grammaticali. Tutto questo si fisserà nel vostro cervello e lo potrete usare quando parlate o scrivete in Italiano. Quindi, leggere può migliorare anche le vostre abilità di conversazione e di scrittura.

c. Improving other language skills: when you read, you learn new vocabulary, new expressions and also new grammatical structures. All this will stick in your brain and you can take and use it when speaking or writing in Italian. So, reading can improve also your speaking and writing skills.

Se iniziate a leggere in un’altra lingua per la prima volta, vi consiglio caldamente di iniziare da storie o testi brevi e poi passare a qualcosa di più lungo. Questo vi aiuterà ad aumentare la vostra fiducia nelle vostre abilità di lettura e vi impedirà di stancarvi troppo.

If you start reading in another language for your first time, I strongly suggest you to start from short stories or short texts and then move on to something that’s longer. This will help you become more confident in your reading skills and avoid to get too tired.

Se volete imparare parole nuove in base al vostro livello linguistico e non volete rischiare di leggere qualcosa che per il momento per voi è troppo avanzato, potete ricorrere alle letture graduate.

If you want to learn new words according to your language level and don’t want to risk reading something that is too advanced for you at the moment, you can use graded readers.
